I just completed three incredible weeks of fieldwork in Kampala, Uganda, for the Urban visual cultures project with best collaborator Miti Kinaawola 🇺🇬🇺🇬🇺🇬
We interviewed sign painters, printers, graffiti artists, billboard fabricators, and city authorities, and assembled a visual ethnography of Kampala’s surfaces, including wall branding, gig banners, election posters, murals, stickers, and infinite commercial signage 💫
The project will argue for the cultural value of public images that make up Kampala’s streetscape, through ambitious and creative documentation and descriptions.
